Ma Wei Fermented Pu-erh Tea

The tea leaves were harvested from organically cultivated, pure assamica varietal tea bushes growing at an altitude 1300-1350 meters (4300-4450 feet) on summit of Ma Wei Mountain (Simao District, just west of Pu'Er city, Yunnan, China).

This loose leaf pu-erh is "Jia Ji" (Grade 3 sized leaf) - a relatively small leaf grade. The leaves were carefully harvested, sorted, processed into sun-dried mao cha, and then wet piled for 45 days for fermentation.

This pu-erh tea is very approachable because it brews easily, quickly, is rich with no bitterness, and can yield many flavorful infusions. The aroma is reminiscent to opening a fresh pouch of chocolate nibs. The tea liquor is a clear, dark redish-brown color with a pleasant mouth-feel. You'd have to do something terribly wrong to ruin the flavor, like leave it brewing for a couple days before remembering to drink it (no, I've never done that in my life).

This relatively small farm was started by Mr. Zuxiang Dong - having made his fortune in the forestry business, he wanted to shift his focus to his deep passion: community-minded, sustainable tea. The tea pluckers are granted tremendous autonomy and financial independence. All families that are part of the farm system are given free housing, education, and other skills training.

Brewing advice -

Water temperature: 212 degrees (boiling)

Number of infusions: 4 to 10 for gong fu brewing. Each infusion creates a unique flavor profile.
