Flavor: Mellow, woody, mushroom notes, forest, earthy, red bean, dried fruit, interestingly herbal/medicinal, thick and full mouthfeel. Much lighter flavor than aged pu-erh tea, and somewhat similar to a very light and smooth black tea.
About Golden Flora Tea: This Hunan mao cha was harvested, processed and pressed in 2018.
Golden Flora is a Fu Zhuan, roughly meaning "Fermented Brick" and is a class of Hei Cha known for the presence of a specific microorganism, Eurotium cristatum. Known as the "golden mold" or "golden flower", it presents itself as distinctive golden dots on the interior of the brick. This probiotic organism has been found to survive the high-temperature steeping process and colonize the gut. This prized mold is not found on any other type of tea and is associated with a host of beneficial effects!
Recent research from the past few years suggests that E cristatum and tea fermented with it may be beneficial to the metabolism by alleviating obesity in mice, as well as demonstrating anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties in vitro. These studies are found online.
