THE STORY:

Some of life's deepest moments of connection happen when we slow down.

We call this infusion WILD JUJUBE because it invites us to rediscover the beauty of simplicityβ€”taking a breath, savoring the present, and making room for rest and reflection.

Traditionally used in herbal wellness practices, with historical associations with relaxation, digestive wellness,Β and weight management.Β

Harvested from wild jujube trees in the mountains of Laoshan, China, this remarkable infusion offers an extraordinary depth of flavor without caffeine. Its complex character brings together toasted rice, sweet fruit, malt, roasted barley, chestnut, and dark chocolate, with a savory depth reminiscent of Japanese genmaicha.

Because a flourishing life makes room for both activity and rest.

Potential health benefits:

  • Antioxidant activity: Laboratory research has identified antioxidant polyphenols in jujube leaf infusions, including quercitrin, catechin, and gallocatechin.
  • Caffeine-free evening beverage: A chemical analysis of commercial jujube leaf tea detected no caffeine or theophylline, making it a potential alternative to caffeinated tea at night. However, that study did not prove that it improves sleep.Β
  • Relaxation and sleep: Jujube leaf tea has a traditional association with calming and sleep support. The evidence that the leaf infusion itself improves sleep in humans remains insufficient; much of the better-known sleep research concerns jujube seeds.Β
  • Oral health potential: Water extracts of the leaves showed activity against biofilm-forming Streptococcus mutans in laboratory research. This does not establish that drinking the tea prevents cavities.

How Much Tea Will This Make?

Each 4-gram serving is suitable for a 12 oz mug. When prepared using the Gong Fu method, the same leaves can typically be infused 2-4 times, with each infusion revealing a different dimension of flavor.

Brewing Recommendations

For a 12 oz mug:

  • Tea: 4 grams
  • Water temperature: 180Β°F (82Β°C)
  • Steeping: Begin with a short infusion and adjust to taste, avoiding over-steeping.

For Gong Fu brewing:

Use multiple short infusions to explore the changing flavors. Each steep may reveal different notes, from toasted grain and sweet fruit to deeper, savory, and chocolate-like characteristics.

Use clean water with some mineral content. Keep brewing equipment clean and store your tea in a cool, dry place away from light, heat, moisture, and strong odors.

WILD JUJUBE is a naturally caffeine-free herbal infusion made from the leaves of wild jujube plants. Despite its name, it is not a traditional tea made from Camellia sinensis.
